Softball – Hornets score early and often as they pound out 20 hits and roll to season-opening 18-0 rout of Blue Mountain

RECAP >> After having the first two games of their season postponed due to weather, the wait for opening day was well worth it for the Hornets on Monday afternoon at Blue Mountain High School as they pounded out 20 hits and rolled to a season-opening 18-0 non-league rout of the Blue Eagles in a game that was stopped after four innings.

Emmaus (1-0) scored early and often in this one as they accounted for runs in all four innings, including a six-run first off Blue Mountain starter sophomore Bryn Russian who lasted just 2 2/3 innings.

For the Hornets, senior catcher Abby Bartels led the offense going 3-for-4 with three RBI, sophomore shortstop Marah Sisonick also went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, junior left fielder Tatum Kresley had three hits and scored four runs and sophomore second baseman Maddie Bruns also had three hits while driving in two runs and scoring a pair of runs. Senior third baseman Jordyn Bruckler had three RBIs.

Also adding to the offensive onslaught were senior center fielder Lily Trexler, freshman right fielder Peyton Sisonick and sophomore left fielder Kira Ryan who all had two hits in the win.

In the circle, senior Hannah Palinkas and Kresley combined for the shutout allowing just a pair of hits while striking out eight.

The Hornets will be right back in action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday as they travel to Nazareth for their Eastern Pennsylvania Conference season-opener.
