RECAP — The Emmaus girls and boys swimming and diving teams celebrated their Senior Day Thursday by sweeping Central Catholic to improve to 7-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC). Both teams won by 32-point margins with the girls winning 102-70, while their male counterparts also defeated the Vikings 97-65.

” This class is a great class of character, competitiveness, teamwork, and spirit,” said head coach Tim O’Connor. ” They have inspired me to be a better coach and give more to their year round training than I have in a decade.”

“I truly love all swimmers I coach, and I do my best to inspire all kids I work with in school and the pool, however, four years ago there was a little different spark with this group than the years previous.  They loved the challenge of being pushed.  They did not know everything, but loved learning and were willing to listen, learn, and make changes to improve.”

The seven girls seniors included: Katie and Maggie Champagne, Chelsea Gravereaux, Abby Heilenman, Reilly King, Caroline Nelson and Jordyn Yerger. The six boys were Evan Bova, Matt Gertner, Patti Kuzdzal, James Mont, Drew Stenger and Jake Young.

“They are all great student-athletes who have helped us improve our TEAM atmosphere for the best and I know that their best years are in front of them, however, I am thrilled to have been fortunate enough to work with them,” said O’Connor.

Emmaus won 16 of the 24 events from Central Catholic with both the girls and boys team each winning eight races.

In the girls competition, seniors Reilly King (200 free/2:02.12), Katie Champagne (50 free/ 25.15), Chelsea Gravereaux (100 butterfly/57.14) and Abby Heilenman (100 free/ 54.84) all took first place in their respective races, while Evan Bova (200 IM/ 2:06.07), James Mont (diving/200.90) and Patrick Kuzdzal (100 butterfly/58.25) won top honors for the boys in each of their races.

Emmaus followed up their win over Central Catholic by sweeping East Stroudsburg South, Pocono Mountain East and Pocono Mountain West in a quad meet held on Saturday.

The girls defeated ES South 101-41, PM East 90-68 and PM West 102-60, while the boys did the same in defeating ES South 93-64, PM East 90-56 and PM West 97-62.

Both teams will return to the pool on Tuesday as the Hornets host Bridgewater-Raritan High School from New Jersey at 4 p.m.
