Wrestling – Hornets drop heartbreaker at Stroudsburg as Mounties win final bout to defeat Emmaus 33-30; Wright picks up career win No. 100 in dual

RECAP >> Emmaus dropped a heartbreaker last night at Stroudsburg High School as the Mounties defeated the Hornets in a thrilling 33-30 dual meet with the match decided in the final bout.

Stroudsburg junior Sebastian Khamis defeated Emmaus senior James Santichen at heavyweight 2-1 in sudden victory to give the Mounties the win on their Senior Night.

The victory improved Stroudsburg to 5-1 in the EPC and 11-5 overall, while the loss dropped the Hornets to 5-2 and 11-4 overall. The win by the Mounties was their third straight over Emmaus, including a pair of wins a year ago (52-6 regular-season, 46-15 District XI Team duals).

Stroudsburg won 8 of the 14 bouts, including 5 of the last 7 as they rallied from 21-12 deficit.

For Emmaus, senior Caden Wright (17-2 overall) picked up career win No. 100 at 195 with a second period pin over fellow senior Juwan Little.

Also, sophomore Nick Velde (11-7) was impressive at 126 with third period fall over senior Jeff Pasciak who was 8-1 on the season, while junior Kordell Waiters (15-2) was also solid at 145 with a second period pin over junior Owen Cheslak. Junior Cody Lafaver (10-5) also had a big win in the match as he defeated senior Jullian Sparks 3-1 at 220 to tie the match at 30-all heading to the final bout of the night.

Emmaus will now have to regroup quickly as Nazareth (6-0 EPC, 10-1 overall) comes to ‘The Hive’ at 7 p.m. tonight in another EPC matchup.
