At Church Lane Park on Monday afternoon, Emmaus’ late season struggles continued as they committed a season-high seven errors in falling to Whitehall 4-1.

The Zephyrs scored three runs in their final at-bat to break a 1-1 tie as they handed the Hornets their fourth straight loss.

Emmaus, which has scored just four runs in its last four games, dropped to two games under .500 on the season at 6-8 overall and saw their EPC mark fall to 6-5.

The Hornets jumped out to an early 1-0 lead against Whitehall ace Jack Lloyd in the bottom of the first inning on sophomore Tanner Karwacki’s RBI ground out, but that would be all the scoring Emmaus would do the rest of the way.

Whitehall tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning on Sudge Hoderewski’s RBI double, and then the Zephyrs put the game away in the top of the seventh inning scoring three runs. The key hit being a two out, two run single off the bat of Tyler Sanders. A fourth run came home on an error.

Emmaus had its chance in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game loading the bases with none out as Karwacki doubled, senior Robbie Barnes reached on error and classmate Cole Moreau singled, but Lloyd struck out both sophomore Justin Spagna and senior Zach Ehritz and then got freshman Zack Yetter to line out to end the game.

Karwacki, Moreau and senior Chase Simmons each went 1-for-3 at the plate for the Hornets.

Lloyd picked up the win on the mound for Whitehall going 6 2/3 innings before giving way to reliever Logan Shean who earned the save.

Moreau was the tough-luck loser on the mound for the Hornets allowing just one earned run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Emmaus will return to action at 4 on Wednesday as they travel to Lehigh Carbon Community College taking on Central Catholic. The game will be carried LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network beginning at 3:45 p.m.
