At Memorial Field on Tuesday night, Emmaus looked like it was headed for its third overtime game of the season facing Moravian Academy.
With the game tied at 5-5 and clock winding down in regulation, sophomore Greyson Schmidt scored the game-winning goal with just 7.8 seconds left as the Hornets came away with the one-goal victory, its third of the season.
Schmidt recorded his third straight hat trick in as many games to lead Emmaus which won despite committing 24 turnovers in the game.
With the victory, head coach Justin Fuhrman’s team improves to 8-6 on the season.
Sophomore Alex Younker added a pair of goals in the win – Nos. 20 and 21 on the season – while another sophomore, Sam Pechulis, also tallied his 13th. Emmaus also welcomed back senior LSM Jace Pilarski who had been sidelined with an injury since the fourth game of the season against Easton.
In goal, freshman Liam Lewis recorded 13 saves, including two big stops in the final moments to secure the victory.
The Hornets will return to action on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. as they travel to Southern Lehigh.
