At Parkland on Thursday night, the Hornets battled their archrival and were looking to spoil Parkland’s Senior Night with an upset victory in their regular-season finale.
Emmaus, which jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first quarter, trailed 8-4 at the half after the Trojans used a 5-1 advantage in the second quarter. The Hornets did outscore Parkland 5-2 in the second half, but the comeback came up one goal short for head coach Justin Fuhrman’s team.
In a losing effort, junior Anthony Attar and sophomore Alex Younker each had a hat trick for the while sophomore Greyson Schmidt added a pair of goals and an assist. In goal, freshman Liam Lewis allowed just two goals after halftime and made 12 saves on the night.
Parkland, led by former Emmaus coach Scott Ketcham, was paced on offense by senior John Gerancher who had a five-point game with three goals and two assists. Sophomore Isaiah Fisher also added a hat trick, while classmate Colton Arezzi also had two goals and a pair of assists for the Trojans improved to 7-2 in the EPC and 12-5 overall. Parkland also defeated the Hornets for the third straight time and for the fifth time in the last six meetings.
At the faceoff X, Parkland won 21 of 35. For Emmaus, senior Colin Garrett won 11 of 16, while freshman Max Weber was 3 of 5.
Up next for Emmaus will be the league tournament which gets underway next Wednesday, May 6 at Northampton. The Hornets will likely be the No. 4 seed and face top-seed and the three-time defending champs Easton. The other semifinal will pit CCHS vs Parkland.
