Emmaus 10, Parkland 8
At Memorial Field on Thursday night, Emmaus battled the elements – a steady rainfall – and its biggest rival – Parkland – to pick up an all-important win in the EPC regular-season finale for both teams.
Riding a two-game losing streak after a pair of one goal losses to both Southern Lehigh and Saucon Valley, the Hornets bounced back with one of their better efforts of the season using a 4-1 third quarter to pull away and defeat the Trojans.
Seven different players figured into the scoring column for head coach Roxann Betz’s squad who improved to 6-2 in the league and 11-5 overall. With the win, Emmaus will likely be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming league tournament and will face Nazareth, the No. 2 seed.
Senior Taylor Younker had a four-point game (2 goals/2 assists) to lead the offense while sophomore Avery Aquino and senior Sarah Gross each added a pair of goals. Senior Kathryn Newhard also added a goal and an assist. In goal, junior Kate Rainford picked up the win making four saves.
Parkland, which had dropped four of its last five games, was led by sophomore Sydney Sensinger and senior Addison Winfield who each had a hat trick. The loss by the Trojans was a costly one as they dropped to 4-4 and tied with Liberty. The Hurricane clinched the final berth by virtue of their 11-8 win over the Trojans earlier this season.
Emmaus will play one more game before the league tournament as they travel to Crestwood (12-3) on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
