Boys Lacrosse – Hornets drop fifth game in last six as Southern Lehigh uses big second half to defeat Emmaus 11-6 in 4th Annual Relentless Hope Match

RECAP >> Host Southern Lehigh broke open a tight one-goal game at the half, outscoring Emmaus 6-2 after intermission as the Spartans defeated the Hornets 11-6 in the 4th Annual Relentless Hope Match held on Saturday in Center Valley.

The win by Southern Lehigh marked the second consecutive year and the third time in the last four years, that the Spartans have defeated Emmaus in the charity game better known as the PanCan Game that creates awareness for pancreatic cancer.

The event was started back in 2016 between the two schools and has raised almost $20,000. There were four games played on the day beginning with the junior varsity girls at 10 a.m., followed by the JV boys at 11:30 a.m., the varsity girls at 2 p.m. and the boys varsity at 4 p.m.

In the varsity boys game, Emmaus suffered its fifth loss in its last six games and dropped to 11-5 overall on the season. The Hornets started the year winning its first 10 games.

Senior Bailey O’Connor had a four-point game and led Emmaus with his fifth hat trick of the season. Classmate Sam Conway and junior Grant Hawkins each added a goal and an assist, while junior Michael Leschinsky scored his team-leading 36th goal of the season to open the scoring and give Emmaus a 1-0 lead.

Solehi, which improved to 9-1 on the season, had seven different players score goals led by senior Ken Wolf who had a game-high four goals. Sophomore Cooper Nelson also scored two goals in the win, while junior Kyle Hoff had a three-point game with two assists and a goal. In goal, senior Garrett Schlosser gave up just a pair of goals after halftime.

Emmaus will return to action at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Memorial Field when they play their final regular-season home game hosting Easton on Mentor Night.
