Girls Basketball – Burkhart (17 points) and Martin (13) put up career-best efforts as Hornets celebrate first win of season with 54-44 overtime victory over Scranton

RECAP — Behind a career-best 17-point effort from senior Alyssa Burkhart and sophomore Gabrielle Martin’s career-high 13 point effort, the Emmaus girls basketball team celebrated their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon at ‘The Hive’ as the Hornets defeated Scranton 54-44 in overtime in a first-ever non-league matchup between the two teams.

Emmaus outscored Scranton 10-0 in the extra session as both Burkhart (four points) and Martin (six) did all of the scoring for the Hornets who put up a season-high for points in a game in improving to 1-6 overall.

Junior Brooke Wunderler added seven points in the win as did freshman Sarah Hoch who came off the bench and scored all of her career-high seven points in the second quarter.

Scranton, which dropped to 2-4 on the season, was led in scoring by 6-3 junior center Colette Mulderig who scored a game-high 20 points.
