Girls Basketball – Hornets drop fifth straight as late-game comeback falls short in 45-42 loss to Northampton

RECAP >>  Emmaus’ bid to snap a four-game losing streak came up short last night in Northampton as the Konkrete Kids held off a late Hornets rally to earn a three-point win, 45-42.

Emmaus dropped to 7-5 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) and 10-8 overall following their fifth straight loss. Despite the defeat, the Hornets are still in the race to make the eight-team league playoffs as they are currently tied with Liberty for the final spot. Emmaus also needs just one win in their final four games to clinch a berth in districts.

It was just three weeks ago when Northampton traveled to Emmaus and the Hornets handed them a 46-40 defeat, snapping a 15-game losing streak dating back to the 2013-14 season.

Since that point, however, head coach Kelsey Gallagher’s team has dropped six of their last seven games.

In last night’s defeat, Emmaus found themselves down by 12 (34-22) entering the fourth quarter. In the final period, they outscored the KKids 20-11 but the comeback fell short.

Freshman Gabby De Vita led Emmaus in scoring for the third straight game finishing with a team-high 10 points. Juniors Taylor Griffith and Mya Cooper each added nine points as did senior Paige Inman.

Northampton (10-8 overall/6-6 EPC) was paced by senior Grace Lesko who had a game-high 24-points. Teammate Nicole Yellen added 10.

Emmaus will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday as they host Whitehall at ‘The Hive.’ The game will be carried LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network with the pregame show beginning at 6:40 p.m.
