At Rockne Hall on Wednesday night, Emmaus battled rival Central Catholic to a five-set thriller with the Hornets prevailing 3-2 (25-22, 14-25, 25-21, 14-25, 15-13).
After winning sets 1 and 3 and dropping sets 2 and 4, Emmaus was able to take the winner-take-all fifth set and the match. It was the first time since the 2022 season that the Hornets have won on the Vikettes home court.
With the victory, the Hornets improve to 5-1 in the EPC, while CCHS drops to 5-2.
Senior Rosie Landino led the Emmaus offense with a team-high 13 kills and defensively, a team-best 17 digs.
Junior Fiona Answini also had a sold all-around game with 10 kills and 14 digs, while classmate Emma Nesfeder handed out 24 assists and also had four kills, four aces and 10 digs.
Central Catholic’s offense was balanced with sophomore Lexie Visco leading the way with 11 kills and 17 digs. Senior Leah Sweetana was next with10 kills and seven digs, sophomores Chloe Cook and Piper Cerimele had eight and seven kills, respectively. Senior Emily Tucker dished out a game-high 46 assists to go along with eight digs. Defensively, senior Bri Bauer had a match-high 31 digs.
Up next for Emmaus will be another key league matchup as they travel to Liberty on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Hurricane are 6-1 on the season.
