Golf – Hornets go low, low, low with team score of 360 Tuesday at Allentown Municipal; round believed to be the lowest in school history.

August 21, 2019

The Emmaus golf team shot what is believed to be the lowest round in the history of the school on Tuesday afternoon as the Hornets put together an incredible score of 360 in easily defeating Central Catholic (397), Pleasant Valley (493) and East Stroudsburg South (528) in a quad match held Allentown Municipal Golf Course (Par 72).

Unofficially, the team score of 360 beat the previous mark of 365 set back in 2012 as Emmaus defeated Northampton and Easton.

Michelle Cox was top medalist and led the Hornets with a career-low round of 6-under 66 (31-35), which is the best score by an Emmaus golfer since 2013 when Carlos Fullerton fired a round of 65 at Riverview Country Club.

The Emmaus junior had 10 birdies and five pars on the day as she beat her previous-low of 69 set a year ago also at Allentown Municipal. Just last week, Cox also set a course record in a practice round held at the team’s home course at Brookside Country Club as she shot a 64.

Besides Cox’s outstanding performance, the Hornets also got stellar play from sophomores Matt Zerfass and Aiden LeBlanc along with junior Sean Jaeger who all shot rounds of 1-over-73.

Freshman John Keba and junior Colin Wong were not far behind as both finished just two shots back at 3-over-75.

The victory keeps Emmaus unbeaten on the season as they improve to 5-0. Up next, the Hornets will host Whitehall in their first home match of the season at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at Brookside Country Club.
