Emmaus 12, Liberty 2

At Church Lane Park on Tuesday, the Hornets scored early and often as they snapped a long losing streak against the Hurricane by rolling to a mercy-rule win in six innings.

Winners of three straight, Emmaus scored four runs in two of the first three innings and banged out 11 hits off of three Liberty pitchers as they improved to 4-1 in the EPC and 4-2 overall. The victory also marked the first time since the 2017-18 season that the Hornets have beaten the Hurricane, snapping a six-game losing streak.

Starter Cole Moreau, making his third appearance of the season, was outstanding on the mound as he improved to 2-0 after allowing just two runs on four hits in five innings of work. The southpaw struck out six and walked three.

Offensively, shortstop Josh Diaz was 2-for-3 with three RBI, third baseman Ryan Hummel was also 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and right fielder Tanner Karwacki also had two hits. Center fielder Connor Horwath and first baseman Chase Simmons each had two RBI in the win.

Jaden Betz, who pitched a scoreless sixth inning, ended the game in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single.

Emmaus got all the runs they would need in this one scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Two runs scored on one of five Liberty errors in the game and a Horwath two-run double to make it 4-0.

In the third inning, the Hornets added to their lead on a pair of two-run singles by both Hummel and Diaz to make it an 8-1 advantage

Liberty starter Liam Fitzpatrick suffered the loss on the mound as he was touched up for eight runs in just 2 2-3 innings of work.

The Hurricane, who committed five errors in the game, had its three-game win streak snapped as they dropped to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.

Emmaus will return to action on Saturday at Noon as they host Wilson West Lawn. The game will be aired LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network.
