At Church Lane Park on Monday afternoon, senior Cole Moreau’s sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning brought home the winning run as Emmaus rallied for a 5-4 win over visiting Pocono Mountain East.
The Hornets, who were outhit 10-5 in the game, had to rally twice in the game to pick up an important victory that improves their EPC mark to 6-2 and 6-4 overall.
With the game tied at 4-4 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning, pinch hitter senior Zach Ehritz singled to right field with one out. Pinch runner Braden Chaney, a junior, then stole second base and moved to third on an error setting the stage for Moreau.
Emmaus, which had trailed 3-0 and 4-2 in the game, rallied to tie the game in the sixth inning on junior John Kelly’s sacrifice fly to right.
Senior Robbie Barnes had two RBIs in the win for the Hornets. Both Moreau and sophomore Tanner Karwacki were 1-for-3 with an RBI.
On the mound, Barnes threw five scoreless innings in relief of starter and classmate Jaden Betz and picked up his third win of the season. The right-hander scattered six hits while walking three.
PM East, which started the season 6-0, has now lost four of its last five as they dropped to 7-4 on the season. Devin Jackson, Lucas Angst and Connor Triano all had two hits for the Cardinals.
