A year ago, Northwestern Lehigh earned its first ever win against Emmaus stunning the Hornets with a 7-6 overtime win in New Tripoli.
When the two teams met again last night at Memorial Field, overtime once again came into the picture, however, it was Emmaus this time coming away with the win while earning a bit of revenge.
Sophomore Dylan Maloney scored three goals on the night, but none bigger than the one he scored in overtime as the Hornets survived the Tigers with an 8-7 victory.
Emmaus let a two-goal lead slip away early in the fourth quarter as Northwestern tied it at 7-7 forcing the extra session, and that’s when the Hornets scored the game-winner as Maloney completed the hat trick with his team-leading 10th goal of the season past Tigers senior goalie Dane Kauker with :44 seconds left on the scoreboard.
Sophomore Greyson Schmidt added two goals in the win, while junior Anthony Attar added a goal and two assists. Senior Colin Garrett won 12 of the 16 at the faceoff X, while freshman Liam Lewis made 13 stops for the Hornets who improved 4-3 overall.
Northwestern Lehigh was led by senior Tyler Kaas who had a four-point game with two goals and two assists. Sophomore Grayson Christman added a pair of goals. In goal, Kauker was busy making 16 saves for the Tigers who fell to 3-3 on the season.
The Hornets will return to action on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. as they travel to Boyertown for a non-league game.
