RECAP >> After suffering through a six-game losing streak, the Emmaus girls lacrosse team needed a win in the worst way to gain some momentum as they make a push towards hopefully reaching the post-season.

The Hornets picked a perfect opponent in a one-win Pottstown team and they did it on a night when the team honored its seniors and the program’s all-time leading scorer who reached yet another milestone.

Scoring the game’s first 11 goals, Emmaus had no trouble getting back in the win column as they had an easy time with the Trojans from the Pioneer Athletic Conference, defeating Pottstown 17-4 on Wednesday night at Memorial Field.

Seven different Hornets found the back of the net led by junior Kaitlyn Csensits who scored four of her game-high five goals in the first half, and senior Taylor O’Brien who added four goals and two assists, including her 300th career point of her career.

“It feels good,” said O’Brien of the milestone she reached in the first half when she assisted teammate junior Emma Schoenly on a goal with 12:41 to play. “The number 300 is a big number so even though I just got my 200th goal last week, I feel like this is the cherry on top.”

“It means a lot to me because the game was at home and my whole entire family was here and they released balloons, That was really special moment because I didn’t even know they were doing that,” she added.

O’Brien’s six points in tonight’s game add to an already impressive total that now stands at 207 goals, 96 assists and 303 total points – all school records – with at least six games to play.

Numbers aside, O’Brien was just happy her team got back on the winning track after not having that feeling since a 12-11 victory over Central Catholic back on April 4.

“It feels really good.” she said. “The feeling of losing stinks, especially that many in a row, but we all wanted to win tonight and we showed that.”

And, it happened on special night when O’Brien and five of her teammates – Grace Hall, Chloe Gerhard, Kellyn Kunkle, Isabella Viola and Sydney Amant – were honored at halftime on Senior Night.

Hall also had a big night as she wound up with a five-point game, registering a hat trick to go along with two assists.

Freshman Julia Cote had a pair of goals in the win, while Schoenly, junior Tori Brinckman and sophomore Nesiah Bertram also scored for Emmaus which improved to 5-7 overall.

The Hornets will look to continue their momentum tonight at 7:45 p.m. as they’ll be back in action traveling to Liberty for a key game.
