Softball – Gitski homers to tie game in final at-bat, Kozy draws bases-loaded walk in extras as Hornets rally for 8-7 win over Northampton

RECAP >> Despite a season-high six errors, Emmaus was still able to find a way to win, and what a wild victory it was for the Hornets, defeating Northampton 8-7 on Monday afternoon at Williams Street Field.

Senior Emma Kozy drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk scoring the winning run as the Hornets celebrated the win and avenged for an earlier-season 9-7 loss to the K-Kids with their third straight victory in improving to 12-3 overall and 8-3 in the EPC.

Emmaus tied the game in their final-at bat in the bottom of the seventh inning as senior Taylor Gitski blasted a two-run home run off the scoreboard in left centerfield.

In the circle, senior Autum Held threw 144 pitches and scattered seven runs on six hits while striking out seven in earning the complete-game win.

Statistically, Emmaus outhit Northampton 12-6 in the game. Senior right fielder Molly Yard led the Hornets with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with two runs scored. Sophomore catcher Abby Derr was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Held and junior Sadie Haefeli each had two hits.

For Northampton, left fielder Kiley Henritzy had a team-high three RBI. Senior center fielder Ava Cascario was the only player with multiple hits going 2-for-4. The K-Kids dropped their third straight game in falling to 8-4 overall and 5-4 in the league.

Emmaus will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Allen at 4 p.m.
