RECAP >> The Emmaus girls and boys track and field teams both improved to 2-0 on the season earlier this week after sweeping Whitehall at the Zephyr Sports Complex.

The girls rolled to a 113.50-36.50 victory, while the boys won by a much closer margin 83-67.

Highlighting the girls meet was junior Lindsay Lumsden who broke the school record in the triple jump.

“Lindsay had an amazing meet for two reasons, not just one,” said head coach Kami Reinhard. “She achieved the new triple jump school record of 36 feet 5.5 inches, improving by one-foot from her previous best. Coach (Adam) Labar has been pleased with her work towards achieving this goal.”

Lumsden, a junior, broke the previous record of 36-5 set back in 1984. She also took first place in the long jump.

Emmaus won all but four of the 14 events, including six of the seven races.

“The girls team overall performed well and we were pleased to see Keerstin Augustin win both the 1600m and 800m with solid times at this point in the season,” said Reinhard, the Hornets second year coach.

“Hannah Lingold and Anna-Scott Hand have had strong performances, winning in shot put and discus, respectively. Both the high and intermediate hurdlers swept their events, with Laurel Widdoss earning the win in the 100m hurdles and Edna Creelman in the 300m hurdles.”

Also winning their respective races were: juniors Alanna Smith (100m/12.60), Mackenzie Dries (200m/26.80) and sophomore Isabelle Lees (3200m/12:18.94).

While the girls team rolled to victory, their male counterparts had a much closer battle with the Zephyrs.

” The boys team struggled a bit to earn the win, but showed a strong presence on the track, especially in the distance events,” said Reinhard.

“Jacob Brown earned the win in both the 1600m and 800m. Keyon Carroll-Herring had a win and a new personal best in the high jump of 6-3. Even though the throwers are not scoring many points, we have been pleased on the progress and improvement on the throws team. “

In the sprints, the Hornets dominated with junior Jaiden Acevedo (110m hurdles/18.50), senior Lubens Myers (100m/11.30), junior Mason Boyd (400m/53.00), sophomore Alex Harmon (300m hurdles/46.30) and junior Ben Shimer (3200m/11.09.48) – all winning their respective races.

The girls and boys teams will return to the track on Monday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to Easton .

“Overall, there is a lot more work to do, and we meet up with who appears to be the best team in the league, Easton,” said Reinhard. “Our focus is on competing the best we can and improving individually while we are doing it.”
