Dylan Maloney has had a flare for the dramatic this season for the Emmaus boys lacrosse team.

The sophomore scored the game-winning goal in overtime a week ago at home at Memorial Field as the Hornets survived Northwestern Lehigh 8-7.

Last night at the same venue, Maloney once again was the hero as he found the back of net with the game-winner with 2:15 on the clock in the second overtime as Emmaus won an important EPC matchup against Nazareth 9-8.

The victory improves the Hornets record to 5-1 in the EPC and 6-4 overall, while the Blue Eagles dropped to 3-2 in the league and 5-3 overall. Emmaus also avenged for a pair of losses to Nazareth a year ago, including an 11-10 last-second, season-ending defeat in the District 11 playoffs.

Maloney wound up the night leading Emmaus’ offensive attack as he scored a pair of goals to go along with two assists. Junior Anthony Attar and sophomore Sam Pechulis each added two goals. At the faceoff X, the Hornets had a lot of success with senior Colin Garrett winning 8 of 12 and freshman Max Weber 9 of 11. In goal, freshman Liam Lewis came up with some big saves late and finished with 12 on the night.

For Nazareth, senior Ryan Kane led the offense with a hat trick. Junior Kellan Tomko also added a pair of goals while classmate Nate Orlando was busy making 23 saves.

Emmaus will be right back at it tonight at 6 p.m. as they host Pine-Richland from the Pittsburgh area.
