Boys Tennis – Hornets finish 3rd at EPC Tournament; freshman Chris Stone and doubles tandem of Brashear and Kegley have runner-up finishes

The Emmaus boys tennis team captured third place at EPC Tournament held yesterday at Freedom High School.

Head coach Fred Saab’s squad finished with eight points, trailing only behind rival Parkland who placed second with 11 points and Liberty, who ran away with the team title with 22 points.

Individually, the Stone brothers – junior Nick and freshman Chris – had strong showings in the singles events.

Nick Stone, who entered as the No.4 seed, captured third place at No.1 singles defeating Tim Spinosa of Central Catholic 8-5.

Chris Stone, the No.2 seed, reached the finals at No.2 singles before falling to top-seeded Roman Farhad of Liberty 10-4.

Emmaus’ No.4 doubles tandem of juniors Caleb Brashear and Ayden Kegley also had a strong showing with their second place finish. As the No.3 seed, Brashear and Kegley advanced to the finals losing to Liberty’s top seed of Caden Vermuelen and EJ Powers 10-6.

Also competing for the Hornets in the tournament were No.3 singles player freshman Caleb Brown, No.2 doubles of junior Quinn Derkin and senior Ben Fletcher along with No.3 doubles tandem of seniors Quaid Peatiwala and Sarvesh Sengutluvan.

Both Nick and Chris Stone will compete in the upcoming District XI 3A Tournament which gets underway on Monday. Nick earned the No.3 seed and Chris, No.5.
